As the release date for Baz Luhrmann’s the Great Gatsby creeps ever nearer, May 10, so to does the hotly anticipated Tiffany & Co., Gatsby-esque collection, Ziegfeld. The line, for which only a few pieces and images have been released debuts in April in store and online. The Art Deco jewels worn by Carey Mulligan who portrays the sumptuous Daisy Buchanan were meticulously researched and conceived by costume designer Catherine Martin and the Tiffany & Co. team.
Extensive Tiffany & Co. archival photos were poured over to create the exquisite jewels worn by Mulligan and Debicki, the flatware and home décor used in the film as well as the cuff links and hip flask for Jay Gatsby. Cultured pearls, diamonds, onyx and platinum reign in the Tiffany & Co. collection, which will take even us regular folks back to the roaring 20’s.
“Tiffany & Co seemed the perfect fit for the jewelry of The Great Gatsby not only because F. Scott Fitzgerald himself was a customer but also because Louis Comfort Tiffany, the brand’s first Design Director, mixed in the actual Long Island circles described in the novel,” said costume and production designer Catherine Martin. “The Tiffany & Co Archives have proven to be an invaluable resource in looking back at this Golden Era of affluence and fine jewelry and the continuing tradition of excellence and exquisite craftsmanship has allowed us to both create and recreate pieces that we hope will do justice to this extraordinary novel.”
